Research And Information Seeking

Social Media

Social media are computer-mediated tools that allow people, companies and other organizations to create, share, or exchange information, career interests, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks.

World Wide Web

Like any other map, The Internet map is a scheme displaying objects’ relative position; but unlike real maps (e.g. the map of the Earth) or virtual maps (e.g. the map of Mordor), the objects shown on it are not aligned on a surface. Mathematically speaking, The Internet map is a bi-dimensional presentation of links between websites on the Internet. Every site is a circle on the map, and its size is determined by website traffic, the larger the amount of traffic, the bigger the circle. Users’ switching between websites forms links, and the stronger the link, the closer the websites tend to arrange themselves to each other.

ICT Today!

Information and Communications Technology (ICT), is an extended synonym, an umbrella term which contains both Information Technology (IT) as well as Communications Technology under its fold. In fact, it is a very broad term used to refer to the literally infinite areas of scientific studies and techniques used in the handling of telecommunications; media management and broadcast; intelligent systems; data handling, processing, storage and transmission; network based solutions; as well as audio visual monitoring processes.
More recently, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is also being used to define the merging of several different technologies, each having vastly different types of data sets and formats from one other.ITC
Some of these emerging technologies which now fall under ICT are the amalgamation of audiovisual, telephony and networking, all using a single means for transmission. Previously used landlines are quickly being phased out in favor of optical cable medium which makes all this possible. This has given a huge boost to the implementation of this converging field, both economically, as cabling, servicing and maintenance costs are drastically reduced, as well as technically, as it provides better signal management and distribution.
There are several key proportions to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an ever changing and complex field of science, which is why there is no doubt that a lot of people find it confusing. You always need to be at the top with the latest happenings in the field in order to stay relevant.
However, in order to be considered successful anywhere today, be it academics, employment, or even just to be a responsible citizen, having at least some basic know how of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and how to make use of it to be more productive, is essential, and determines how capable we will be as part of the modern society which relies upon Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for almost everything. This is why digital literacy is extremely important in today’s world.
As part of the study done to validate U.S. Department of Labor IT Competency model content in California regarding Digital Literacy, MPICT determined the California employer agreement with full confidence in the following statement:
“Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) competencies are increasingly important for most of our employers, regardless of role. If there was an agreed-upon standard for digital literacy, or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competencies expected of all workers, regardless of workplace role, my organization would value a credential based on that standard as a way of validating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills for non-ICT workers. In the 21st century, an ability to work with information and communication technologies is becoming as essential to education, life and workplace success as reading, writing and arithmetic.”
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), or digital literacy must be recognized as a basic form of education in modern society by our schools, and must be taught to all students from an early age.
